Proposed Planning Reforms - Parish Council Response
Published: 14 October 2024
Proposed Planning Reforms
The government is proposing to reform the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) together with other changes to the planning system. A public consultation was undertaken between 31st July 2024 and 24th September 2024. The Consultation Letter explained the proposed changes together with the government's reasoning behind them. Responses were invited by giving answers to 106 questions, not all of which were directly relevant to the interests of the parish. In addition, a version of the NPPF was issued which contained the proposed changes highlighted for reference.
The NPPF sets out the government's planning policies which are highly relevant when deciding applications and appeals. The reforms and changes could have significant implications for the parish, mainly because of a revised means of assessing housing need and therefore the release of further land for development to meet the government's targets. Although not directly invited to do so, the parish council has submitted responses as appropriate. Unfortunately, the Q&A form requires much cross-referencing to the Consultation Letter and proposed NPPF and there is no simple way of making it easier. Our responses are attached, together with links to Consultation Letter and the NPPF.
